Psalm 119:89-176 and Anthropomorphic Nouns

Psalm 119:89-176

Today’s reading is jam-packed with more truth about God’s word, whether you call it God’s word, his words, his regulations, his instructions, his commands, his commandments, his laws, his decrees, his truth, or his promises.

What stood out for you when you read these verses? Some highlights for me include:

  • God’s eternal word stands firm in heaven – it doesn’t change
  • By God’s commandments, he gives us life
  • Although perfection has its limits, God’s commands have no limits
  • God’s commands make us wiser than our enemies, for they are our constant guide
  • God’s words taste sweet, sweeter than honey
  • His commandments give us understanding
  • His word is a lamp to guide our feet, a light for our path
  • God’s laws are our treasure, our heart’s delight
  • His word is our source of hope
  • Each of God’s commandments is right
  • God’s laws are wonderful
  • The teaching of God’s word gives light so even the simple can understand
  • God can guide our steps by his word so we will not be overcome by evil
  • God’s regulations are fair
  • God’s laws are perfect and completely trustworthy
  • God’s instructions are perfectly true
  • God’s laws are always right
  • Those who love God’s instructions have great peace and do not stumble

A lot to think about, isn’t it?

Tomorrow, it’s Song of Solomon.

~Anthropomorphic Nouns~

We are all familiar with a

clip_image001

Herd of cows,

clip_image002

A Flock of chickens,

clip_image003

A School of fish

And a Gaggle of geese.

However, less widely known is:

clip_image005

A Pride of lions,

clip_image006

A Murder of crows

clip_image007

(as well as their cousins the rooks and ravens),

clip_image008

An Exaltation of doves

And, presumably because they look so wise:

A Parliament of owls.

Now consider a group of Baboons.

They are the loudest, most dangerous, most obnoxious, most viciously aggressive and least intelligent of all primates.

And what is the proper collective noun for a group of baboons?

Believe it or not... A Congress!

A CONGRESS OF BABOONS!

I guess that pretty much explains the things that come out of Washington !

You just can’t make this stuff up.
