Matthew 11 and Atlas Shrugged II

Matthew 11

Although John the Baptist had seen the Spirit of God descending on Jesus like a dove, he must have wanted more confirmation that Jesus was the Messiah. He had been thrown into prison by Herod at the request of Herodias. She had been the wife of Herod’s brother Philip and John the Baptist spoke out publicly against the marriage. He probably spent a lot of time thinking and meditating and not knowing what was going on.

The answer Jesus gave to John’s disciples to take back to John was so telling of what the ministry of Jesus was like: “Go back to John and tell him what you have heard and seen – the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor. And tell him, ‘God blesses those who do not turn away because of me.’”

Imagine the joy John the Baptist must have felt when he heard those words. It was confirmation that Jesus was Messiah.

The last three verses of Matthew 11 often bring comfort to people who are hurting and burdened by problems we can’t imagine. “Come to me, all of yhou who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle of heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear and the burden I give you is light.”

Be of good heart, everyone. We are living in troublesome times, but Jesus is here to carry our burdern and to give us peace.

Tomorrow, we’ll read Matthew 12:22 - 50 and Luke 11.

Atlas Shrugged II

Atlas Shrugged II carries on the story based on the book by Ayn Rand. And guess what, everyone: there is another part. This one leaves you hanging ujust like the last one. The futility and insanity of wealth redistribution and everyone having their “fair share” is so profound. If you don’t get it after seeing this movie, you probably never will.

Until next time…
