Psalm 1 – 2, 15, 22 – 24, 47, and 68

From the eight, seemingly unrelated Psalms we read for today, I would like to briefly list some of what we learn about God:

  • If we want to be blessed, we should delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night (Psalm 1:2)
  • The Lord watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction (Psalm 1:6)
  • The kings of the earth plot together against the Lord and against His anointed one, thinking they can free themselves from slavery to God. (Psalm 2:2)
  • God is the one who rules in heaven and he laughs and scoffs at them and rebukes them (Psalm 2:4-5)
  • The Lord has placed his chosen king on the throne in Jerusalem and called him His son (Psalm 2:6-7)
  • The son has only to ask and God will give him the nations as his inheritance, the whole earth as his possession (Psalm 2:8)
  • The kings and rulers of the earth are warned to act wisely and serve the Lord with reverent fear and rejoice with trembling (Psalm 2:10)
  • They are urged to submit to God’s royal son or he will become angry and will destroy them (Psalm 2:12)
  • What joy for all who take refuge in Him (Psalm 2:12)
  • Those who may worship in the Lord’s sanctuary and may enter into His presence on God’s holy hill and will stand frim forever are (Psalm 15:1 – 5):
    • Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right
    • Those who speak truth from sincere hearts
    • Those who refuse to gossip or harm their neighbors or speak evil of their friends
    • Those who despise flagrant sinners
    • Those who honor the faithful followers of the Lord
    • Those who keep their promises even when it hurts
    • Those who lend money without charging interest
    • Those who cannot be bribed to lie about the innocent
  • God is holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel (Psalm 22:3)
  • David’s ancestors trusted in God and He rescued them (Psalm 22:4)
  • God brought David safely out of his mother’s womb and led David to trust him at his mother’s breast (Psalm 22:9 - 10)
  • The Lord was David’s God from the moment he was born (Psalm 22:10)
  • The Lord is David’s strength (Psalm 22:19)
  • The Lord has not ignored or belittled the suffering of the needy, has not turned his back on them, but has listened to their cries for help (Psalm 22:24)
  • All who seek the Lord will praise him (Psalm 22:26)
  • The whole earth will acknowledge the Lord and return to him and all the families of the nations will bow down before him (Psalm 22:27)
  • Royal power belongs to the Lord and he rules the nations (Psalm 22:28)
  • His righteous acts will be told to those not yet born and they will hear about everything he has done (Psalm 22:31)
  • The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need (Psalm 23:1)
  • The Lord lets me rest in green meadows and leads me beside peaceful streams (Psalm 23:2)
  • The Lord renews my strength, guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name (Psalm 23:3)
  • I will not be afraid to walk through even the darkest valley because the Lord is close beside me (Psalm 23:4)
  • His rod and staff protect and comfort me (Psalm 23:4)
  • He prepares a feast for me in the presence of my enemies and anoints my head with oil (Psalm 23:5)
  • His goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life (Psalm 23:6)
  • I will live in the house of the Lord forever (Psalm 23:6)
  • The earth and everything in it, including the world and all its people belong to the Lord (Psalm 24:1)
  • The Lord laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths (Psalm 24:2
  • Those with pure hands and hearts who do not worship idols and never tell lies will stand in his holy place, will receive the Lord’s blessing and will have a right relationship with God their savior (Psalm 24:3-5)
  • The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is the King of Glory who is (Psalm 24:8 – 10):
    • Strong and mighty
    • Invincible in battle
  • The Lord Most High is awesome, the great King of all the earth (Psalm 47:2)
  • The Lord subdues nations before the Israelites, putting their enemies beneath their feet (Psalm 47:3)
  • The Lord chose the Promised Land as their inheritance (Psalm 47:4)
  • The Lord ascended with a mighty shout, with great trumpets blaring (Psalm 47:5)
  • God is the King over all the earth, reigns above the nations sitting on his holy throne (Psalm 47:7-8)
  • All the kings of the earth belong to God, Who is highly honored everywhere (Psalm 47:9)
  • The Lord is father to the fatherless, defender of widows (Psalm 68:5)
  • The Lord’s dwelling is holy (Psalm 68:5)
  • The Lord places the lonely in families, sets the prisoners free and gives them joy (Psalm 68:6)
  • The Lord makes the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land (Psalm 68:6)
  • When the Lord led his people out from Egypt and marched them through the dry wasteland, the earth trembled and the heavens poured down abundant rain to refresh the weary land (Psalm 68:7-9)
  • God provided for his needy people (Psalm 68:10)
  • The Lord gives the word and a great army brings the good news (Psalm 68:11)
  • The Almighty scattered the enemy kings (Psalm 68:14)
  • God has chosen to live forever on Mount Zion (Psalm 68:16)
  • Each day, he carries us in his arms (Psalm 68:19)
  • He is a God who saves, who rescues us from death (Psalm 68:20)
  • God will smash the heads of his enemies (Psalm 68:21)
  • The Lord rides across the ancient heavens, his mighty voice thundering from the sky (Psalm 68:33)
  • God has power, his majesty shines down on Israel, his strength is mighty in the heavens (Psalm 68:34)
  • God is awesome in his sanctuary (Psalm 68:35)
  • The God of Israel give power and strength to his people (Psalm 38:35)
