Jeremiah 18 – 22 and Captions

Jeremiah 18 - 22

The Lord gives Jeremiah another object lesson, this time using a potter and his clay. Israel was like the clay in the potter’s hand; the clay could be smashed down and remolded if it didn’t turn out like the potter wanted.

The people reject Jeremiah’s warnings and plot ways to stop him. Jeremiah’s pleads for the Lord to deal with them in his anger. The Lord uses another object lesson to try to reach the people. He has Jeremiah buy a clay jar and take it through the Gate of Broken Pots to the garbage dump, accompanied by some of the leaders and priests.

Jeremiah was arrested, whipped and put in stocks when the priest in charge of the Temple of the Lord heard his prophesies. Jeremiah gives the priest a specific prophesy and tells him the Babylonians are coming to capture them and carry everyone away to Babylon.

Jeremiah is very unhappy with his lot in live, even to the point of cursing the day he was born and wondering why it ever happened.

Eventually, King Zedekiah (Judah) and the priest and Zephaniah come to Jeremiah to plead with him to ask the Lord to help them in the face of the attacks by Kind Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. Jeremiah says the Lord will make their weapons useless against the invaders and will fight against Israel with a strong hand and a powerful arm. Once again God gives them the choice of life or death: life, if they surrender to the Babylonians or death if they do not.

Jeremiah also speaks specific prophecies to the members of the royal family of Judah.

Tomorrow, we’ll be reading Jeremiah 23 – 25.

Whoever captioned these is a genius!
