Acts 18:19 – 19:41

Paul continues his missionary journeys, even taking Priscilla and Aquila with him. He seemed to spend a lot of time in Ephesus. We were also introduced to Apollos who hadn’t heard about the baptism of the Holy Spirit, until Priscilla and Aquila explained it to him. He must have been some debater.

The church at Ephesus had not heard about the baptism of the Holy Spirit either, but embraced it after Paul explained it. God gave extraordinary gifts to Paul, didn’t He? The sick were healed and evil spirits expelled. As always, when there is revival, people confess their sinful practices.

Did you notice how the love of money caused trouble in Ephesus. A silversmith named Demetrius was losing money because people weren’t buying as many silver idols as before. He stirs up the crowd citing Artemis as losing prestige to justify himself. Good thing the mayor of Ephesus had his wits about him, but of course, he was afraid the Romans would charge them with rioting.

Tomorrow, we’ll read I Corinthians 1 – 4.

Until next time…
