Galatians 4 - 6

In yesterday’s reading, Paul made the point that because we belong to Christ, we are the true children of Abraham. We are his heirs and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to us. It has nothing to do with whether or not we are Jewish and everything to do with the faith we have put in Christ. Remember: Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

Paul goes on to explain about Abraham’s sons: Ishmael and Isaac and the difference in the covenants with each. We, like Isaac, are the children of the promise, born by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Christ has set us free and we should make sure we stay free and “don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” “For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.”

Are you living a life with the fruit of the Holy Spirit? That, Paul says, is a life of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Tomorrow, we’ll read Acts 17 – 18:18.

Until next time…
