Martha Raye–American Patriot

This one very special lady. Everyone should be aware of what she did for her country

It was well recognized that Martha Raye endured less comfort and more danger than any other Vietnam entertainer.

Don't let the sun go down without reading this about Martha Raye.

clip_image001

The most unforgivable oversight of TV is that her shows were not taped.

I was unaware of her credentials or where she is buried.

Somehow I just can't see Brittany Spears, Paris Hilton, or Jessica Simpson doing what this woman (and the other USO women, including Ann Margaret & Joey Heatherton) did for our troops in past wars.

Most of the old time entertainers were made of a lot sterner stuff than today's crop of activists bland whiners.

The following is from an Army Aviator who takes a trip down memory lane:

"It was just before Thanksgiving '67 and we were ferrying dead and wounded from a large GRF west of Pleiku. We had run out of body bags by noon, so the Hook (CH-47 CHINOOK) was pretty rough in the back.

All of a sudden, we heard a 'take-charge' woman's voice in the rear.

There was the singer and actress, Martha Raye, with a SF (Special Forces)

beret and jungle fatigues, with subdued markings, helping the wounded into the Chinook, and carrying the dead aboard.

'Maggie' had been visiting her SF 'heroes' out 'west'.

We took off, short of fuel, and headed to the USAF hospital pad at Pleiku.

As we all started unloadingour sad pax's, a 'Smart Mouth' USAF Captain said to Martha... "Ms Ray, with all these dead and wounded to process, there would not be time for your show!"

To all of our surprise, she pulled on her right collar and said ......"Captain, see this eagle? I am a full 'Bird' in the US Army Reserve, and on this is a 'Caduceus' which means I am a Nurse, with a surgical specialty.... now, take me to your wounded!"

He said, "Yes ma'am.... follow me."

Several times at the Army Field Hospital in Pleiku, she would 'cover' a surgical shift, giving a nurse a well-deserved break.

Martha is the only woman buried in the SF (Special Forces) cemetery at Ft Bragg.

Hand Salute! A great lady..

I did not know this about Martha Ray....

thought you might like to read it.

The Flag-Draped Coffin

The Meaning of the Flag-Draped Coffin

All Americans should be given this lesson.

Those who think that America is an arrogant nation should really reconsider that thought. Our founding fathers used GOD's word and teachings to establish our Great Nation and I think it's high time Americans get re-educated about this Nation's history.

Pass it along and be proud of the country we live in, and even more proud of those who serve to protect our 'GOD-GIVEN'

rights and freedoms.

I hope you take the time to read this ... To understand what the flag draped coffin really means .. Here is how to understand the flag that laid upon it and is surrendered to so many widows and widowers:

Do you know that at military funerals, the 21-gun salute stands for the sum of the numbers in the year 1776?

Have you ever noticed that the honor guard pays meticulous attention to correctly folding the United States of America Flag 13 times? You probably thought it was to symbolize the original 13 colonies, but we learn something new every day!

The 1st fold of the flag is a symbol of life.

The 2nd fold is a symbol of the belief in eternal life.

The 3rd fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing the ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of the country to attain peace throughout the world.

The 4th fold represents the weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in time of war for His divine guidance.

The 5th fold is a tribute to the country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, 'Our Country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong.'

The 6th fold is for where people's hearts lie. It is with their heart that they pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America , and the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.

The 7th fold is a tribute to its Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that they protect their country and their flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of their republic..

The 8th fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day.

The 9th fold is a tribute to womanhood, and Mothers. For it has been through their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great has been molded.

The 10th fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of their country since they were first born.

The 11th fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies in the Hebrews eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The 12th fold represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in the Christians eyes, God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit.

The 13th fold, or when the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost reminding them of their Nations motto, 'In God We Trust.'

After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for them the rights, privileges and freedoms they enjoy today.

There are some traditions and ways of doing things that have deep meaning. In the future, you'll see flags folded and now you will know why.

Share this with the children you love and all others who love what is referred to as the symbol of ' Liberty and Freedom.'

MAYBE THE SUPREME COURT SHOULD READ THIS EXPLANATION BEFORE THEY RENDER THEIR DECISION ON THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.

FORWARD IT; MAYBE SOMEONE WITH THE NECESSARY POWER, OR POLITICAL AND FINANCIAL INFLUENCE, WILL GET IT TO THEM.

IN THE MEANTIME, MAY GOD PROTECT US ALWAYS.

ONE NATION, UNDER GOD, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.

If you agree, Pass it along to others..............

If not, hit delete..................

Our Soldiers have preserved your right to make this choice!

They should teach THIS in school.

Military Pay

"A Veteran" - Whether Active Duty, Retired, National Guard or Reserve, is someone who, at one point in their life wrote a blank check payable to "THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" for the amount of "UP TO AND INCLUDING MY LIFE." That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it! - unknown

Please take the time to read!

CINDY WILLIAMS was appointed by Obama as an Assistant Director for NATIONAL SECURITY in the Congressional Budget Office.....

This is an Airman's response to Cindy Williams' editorial piece in the Washington Post about MILITARY PAY, it should be printed in all newspapers across America .

Cindy William wrote a piece for the Washington Times denouncing the pay raise(s) coming service members' way this year citing that she stated a 13% wage increase was more than they deserve.

A young airman from HillAFB responds to her article below.

He ought to get a bonus for this.

"Ms Williams:

I just had the pleasure of reading your column, "Our GI's earn enough" and I am a bit confused. Frankly, I'm wondering where this vaunted overpayment is going, because as far as I can tell, it disappears

every month between DFAS (The Defense Finance and Accounting Service) and my bank account. Checking my latest earnings statement I see that I make $1,117.80 before taxes per month. After taxes, I take home $874.20. When I run that through the calculator, I come up with an annual salary of $13,413.60 before taxes, and $10,490.40 after.

I work in the Air Force Network Control Center where I am part of the team responsible for a 5,000 host computer network. I am involved with infrastructure segments, specifically with Cisco Systems equipment. A quick check under jobs for "Network Technicians" in the Washington , D.C. area reveals a position in my career field, requiring three years experience in my job. Amazingly, this job does NOT pay $13,413.60 a year. No, this job is being offered at $70,000 to $80,000 per annum............ I'm sure you can draw the obvious conclusions.

Given the tenor of your column, I would assume that you NEVER had the pleasure of serving your country in her armed forces.

Before you take it upon yourself to once more castigate congressional and DOD leadership for attempting to get the families in the military's lowest pay brackets off of WIC and food stamps, I suggest that you join a group of deploying soldiers headed for AFGHANISTAN ; I leave the choice of service branch up to you. Whatever choice you make though, opt for the SIX month rotation: it will guarantee you the longest possible time away from your family and friends, thus giving you full "deployment experience."

As your group prepares to board the plane, make sure to note the spouses and children who are saying good-bye to their loved ones. Also take care to note that several families are still unsure of how they'll be able to make ends meet while the primary breadwinner is gone. Obviously they've been squandering the "vast" piles of cash the government has been giving them.

Try to deploy over a major holiday; Christmas and Thanksgiving are perennial favorites.. And when you're actually over there, sitting in a foxhole, shivering against the cold desert night, and the flight sergeant tells you that there aren't enough people on shift to relieve you for chow, remember this: trade whatever MRE's (meal-ready-to-eat) you manage to get for the tuna noodle casserole or cheese tortellini, and add Tabasco to everything. This gives some flavor.

Talk to your loved ones as often as you are permitted; it won't be nearly long enough or often enough, but take what you can get and be thankful for it. You may have picked up on the fact that I disagree with most of the points you present in your open piece.

But, tomorrow from KABUL , I will defend to the death your right to say it.

You see, I am an American fighting man, a guarantor of your First Amendment right and every other right you cherish...On a daily basis, my brother and sister soldiers worldwide ensure that you and people like you can thumb your collective noses at us, all on a salary that is nothing short of pitiful and under conditions that would make most people cringe. We hemorrhage our best and brightest into the private sector because we can't offer the stability and pay of civilian companies.

And you, Ms.. Williams, have the gall to say that we make more than we deserve?

A1C Michael Bragg, Hill AFB AFNCC

IF YOU AGREE, PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT OF THE AMERICAN FIGHTING MEN AND WOMEN.

If you get this more than once, feel honored that you know more than one person who supports our military and appreciates what they do.

If you don't forward it, you don't deserve their sacrifice.

Mom and The USA

What a Beautiful Family!

Three years ago today, my dear mother passed away. I miss her every day. She was a great mother and a great friend. She taught me so much and, regardless of all life threw at her, she was upbeat and optimistic. Can’t wait to see her again.

I hope everyone noticed that Rand Paul went to the Senate floor yesterday and filibustered the nomination of John Brennan as CIA Chief. I’m sorry to say John Brennan was confirmed, but the real issue was the drones and the inability or refusal of the Attorney General and the President to admit that it is unconstitutional to target US citizens in this country without trial, without warrant and without due process. Who could believe that it could come to this in this country? Eric Holder wanted to bring the prisoners from Gitmo to NYC and give them a fair trial, but thinks he and the president can be judge, jury, and executioner when it comes to American citizens. Did you ever see such pussyfooting around as when Senator Ted Cruz of TX questioned him? It just seems as if our rights are disappearing before us.

Pray for the USA.

Until next time…

GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

My sister-in-law sent me this. Please share it with all of your friends.

If even half of this is true I would like to THANK all my Obama supporter friends !!!!

PLEASE PASS THIS OUTRAGE TO EVERY ONE ON YOUR LIST!!! THIS  should be read by everyone; especially important to those over 75... If you are younger, then it applies to your parents...

Your hospital Medicare admittance has just changed under Obama Care.  You must be admitted by your primary Physician in order for Medicare to pay for it! If you are admitted by an emergency room doctor it is treated as outpatient care where hospital costs are not covered. This is only the tip of the iceberg for Obama Care. Just wait  to see what happens in 2013 & 2014!

  Age 76

Today, I went to the Doctor for my monthly B12 shot that I have been getting for a number of years. The nurse came and got me, got out the needle filled and ready to go then looked at the computer and got very quiet and asked if I was prepared to pay for it. I said no that  my insurance takes care of it.

She said that Medicare had turned it down and went to talk to my Dr. about it. 15 minutes later she came back and said, she was sorry but they had tried every thing they could but Medicare is beginning to turn many things down for seniors because of the projected Obama Care coming in. She was brushing at tears and said, "Some day they too will  get old", I am so very sorry!!

Please for the sake of many good people… be informed please.

YOU ARE NOT GOING TO LIKE THIS...

At age 76 when you most need it, you are not eligible for cancer  treatment.

  * see page 272

What Nancy Pelosi didn't want us to know until after the  healthcare bill was passed. Remember she said, "We have to pass the Bill so that we can see what's in it." Well, here it is.

Obama Care Highlighted by Page Number - THE CARE BILL HB 3200

JUDGE KITHIL IS THE 2ND OFFICIAL WHO HAS OUTLINED THESE PARTS OF  THE CARE BILL.

Judge Kithil of Marble Falls, TX - highlighted the most  egregious pages of HB3200.

Please read this....... especially the reference to pages 58 & 59

  JUDGE KITHIL wrote:

** Page 50/section 152: The bill will provide insurance to all  non-U.S. residents, even if they are here illegally.

** Page 58 and 59: The government will have real-time access to  an individual's bank account and will have the authority to make electronic fund transfers from those accounts.

** Page 65/section 164: The plan will be subsidized (by the  government - Bullshit! "Government" after they steal it from you and me! ) for all union members, union retirees and for community  organizations (such as the Association of Community  Organizations for

Reform Now - ACORN).

** Page 203/line 14-15: The tax imposed under this section will  not be treated as a tax. (How could anybody in their right mind come up with that? Can you say "Harry Reid"? - I knew you could )

** Page 241 and 253: Doctors will all be paid the same   regardless of specialty , and the government will set all doctors' fees. (Can you say, "Socialized medicine"? I knew you could)

** Page 272. section 1145: Cancer hospital will ration care  according to the patient's age.

** Page 317 and 321: The government will impose a prohibition on  hospital expansion; however, communities may petition for an exception.

** Page 425, line 4-12: The government mandates advance-care  planning consultations. Those on Social Security will be required to  attend an "end-of-life planning" seminar every five years. (Can you say, "Death counseling"? I knew you could)

** Page 429, line 13-25: The government will specify which  doctors can write an end-of-life order.

HAD ENOUGH???? Judge Kithil then goes on to identify:

"Finally, it is specifically stated that this bill will not  apply to members of Congress!

Honorable David Kithil of Marble Falls, Texas

All of the above should give you the ammo you need to oppose  Obamacare. Please send this information on to all of your email contacts.

Feeling Low?

The next time you feel that nobody loves you, no one cares, or that no one ever notices you, think AGAIN:

Things Got You Down? Well Then, Consider These . .READ ON!!

In a hospital's Intensive Care Unit, patients always died in the same bed, on Sunday morning, at about 11:00 am, regardless of their medical condition. This puzzled the doctors and some even thought it had something to do with the supernatural.

No one could solve the mystery as to why the deaths occurred around 11:00 AM Sunday, so a worldwide team of experts was assembled to investigate the cause of the incidents The next Sunday morning, a few minutes before 11:00 AM all of the doctors and nurses nervously waited outside the ward to see for themselves what the terrible phenomenon was all about. Some were holding wooden crosses, prayer books, and other holy objects to ward off the evil spirits Just when the clock struck 11:00, Fernando Rodriguez , the part-time Sunday sweeper, entered the ward and unplugged the life support system so he could use the vacuum cleaner.

Still Having a Bad Day?

The average cost of rehabilitating a seal after the Exxon Valdez Oil spill in Alaska was $80,000.00 At a special ceremony, two of the most expensively saved animals were being released back into the wild amid cheers and applause from onlookers.. A minute later, in full view, a killer whale ate them both.

Still think you are having a Bad Day?

A woman came home to find her husband in the kitchen shaking frantically, almost in a dancing frenzy, with some kind of wire running from his waist towards the electric kettle. Intending to jolt him away from the deadly current, she ran outside and grabbed a handy plank of wood and smacked him with it, breaking his arm in two places. Up to that moment, he had been happily listening to his iPod

Are You OK Now? - No?

Two animal rights defenders were protesting the cruelty of sending pigs to a slaughterhouse in Bonn , Germany . Suddenly, all two thousand pigs broke loose and escaped through a broken fence, stampeding madly. The two helpless protesters were trampled to death.

What? STILL having a Bad Day?

Iraqi terrorist Khay Rahnajet didn't pay enough postage on a letter bomb. It came back with 'Return to Sender' stamped on it. Forgetting it was the bomb; he opened it and was blown to bits.

Little Lemons and 23 Adult Truths

Little Lemons

Although I still haven’t planted my new Meyer Lemon tree yet, it’s still blooming away and, to my great delight, growing little lemons. I took some pictures so you could see them. Wish there were some way to let you experience the beautiful scent of the lemon flowers.

Lemons

Lemons

I still haven’t

My friend John sent these:

23 Adult Truths

1. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

2. Nothing is more distressing than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.

5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

6. Was learning cursive really necessary?

7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind-of tired.

10. Bad decisions make good stories.

11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.

12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blu-ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.

13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to.

14. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

15. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

16. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more  kisses begin with Miller Light than Kay.

17. Sometimes I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

18. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?

19. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!

20. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

21. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time.

22. The first testicular guard, the "Cup," was used in Hockey in 1874 and  the first "helmet" was used in 1974. That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important.

23. Never sneeze when you have the diarrhea!

Today

Not much going on here today.  I had a coupon for Outback for a buy one lunch entrée and get one free. Karen and I enjoyed a great lunch. We both had French Onion Soup and a Half Filet Focaccia sandwich. Most delicious.

I spent the rest of the day working on some Internet stuff. Tomorrow, I have to go down to the bank in Brandon and I guess I’ll go to the movies so I don’t waste a trip for just one thing.

It was beautiful here today, but it’s been quite cold at night. It was 57 degrees in my house this morning, but I braved the shower anyway.

Until next time…

Testing Complete

Today, I finished testing the last recipe for my cookie cookbook. The recipe was a little strange: it had 4 cups of flour, but the only liquid was 2 eggs and 2 tablespoons of milk. The reason it worked is that it called for 1 cups of melted shortening. The batter was still very dry, almost crumbling, but the cookies turned great as you can see by the following picture:

Uncle FLoyd's Sugar Cookies

Don’t they look good? I ate a couple but will give away the rest.

I tested 20 cookie recipes and each one was delicious. I liked some better than other, but my all-time favorite is my Mom’s recipe for Pumpkin Cookies. Right up there with that is my Aunt Ruth’s Sugar Cookies.

I hope it doesn’t take me too long to get the book ready for publishing on Kindle. I think I’ll also have a website where people can get a .pdf file of the book.

Well, time to take a break – maybe even a nap – since I didn’t go to sleep until about 4:30 this morning and got up and 7:30. This old gal is dragging, but I still managed to make the cookies and a big pot of chili – what a great meal for a cold night.

Until next time…

Thomas Jefferson: A Summary

My sister-in-law Rose sent me this very intriguing summary of Thomas Jefferson:

This is amazing. There are two parts. Be sure to read the 2nd part (in RED).

Thomas Jefferson was a very remarkable man who started learning very early in life and never stopped.

At 5, began studying under his cousin's tutor.
At 9, studied Latin, Greek and French.
At 14, studied classical literature and additional languages.
At 16, entered the College of William and Mary.
At 19, studied Law for 5 years starting under George Wythe.
At 23, started his own law practice.
At 25, was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses.
At 31, wrote the widely circulated "Summary View of the Rights of British Americaâ and retired from his law practice.
At 32, was a Delegate to the Second Continental Congress.
At 33, wrote the Declaration of Independence.
At 33, took three years to revise Virginia's legal code and wrote a Public Education bill and a statute for Religious Freedom.
At 36, was elected the second Governor of Virginia succeeding Patrick Henry.
At 40, served in Congress for two years.
At 41, was the American minister to France and negotiated commercial treaties with European nations along with Ben Franklin and John Adams.
At 46, served as the first Secretary of State under George Washington.
At 53, served as Vice President and was elected president of the American Philosophical Society.
At 55, drafted the Kentucky Resolutions and became the active
head of Republican Party.

At 57, was elected the third president of the United States.
At 60, obtained the Louisiana Purchase doubling the nation's size.
At 61, was elected to a second term as President.
At 65, retired to Monticello.
At 80, helped President Monroe shape the Monroe Doctrine.
At 81, almost single-handedly created the University of Virginia and served as its first president.
At 83, died on the 50th anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence along with John Adams.

Thomas Jefferson knew because he himself studied the previous failed attempts at government. He understood actual history, the nature of God, his laws and the nature of man. That happens to be way more than what most understand today. Jefferson really knew his stuff. A voice from the past to lead us in the future:

John F. Kennedy held a dinner in the white House for a group of the brightest minds in the nation at that time. He made this statement:"This is perhaps the assembly of the most intelligence ever to
gather at one time in the White House with the exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."

---------------------------------------------------

"When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe."
-- Thomas Jefferson

"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."
-- Thomas Jefferson

"It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world."
-- Thomas Jefferson

"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them."

-- Thomas Jefferson

"My reading of history convinces me that most bad government
results from too much government."

-- Thomas Jefferson

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms."

--Thomas Jefferson

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
-- Thomas Jefferson

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

-- Thomas Jefferson

"To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and

tyrannical."
-- Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.
If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property - until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."

I wish we could get this out to everyone!
I'm doing my part. Please do yours.

Until next time…

Working people  frequently ask retired people what they do to  make their days interesting. Well, for example,  the other day, Kate, my wife and I went into  town and visited a shop.
When we came  out, there was a cop writing out a parking  ticket. We went up to him and I said, 'Come on,  man, how about giving a senior citizen a  break?'
He  ignored us and continued writing the  ticket.
I  called him an "asshole". He glared at me and  started writing another ticket for having  worn-out tires.
So Kate called him a  "shit head". He finished the second ticket and  put it on the windshield with the  first.
Then he started writing  more tickets. This went on for about 20 minutes.  The more we abused him, the more tickets he  wrote.
Just then our  bus arrived, and we got on it and went  home.

We  always look for cars with "OBAMA 2012"  stickers.
We try to have a little  fun each day now that we're retired. It's  important at our age.
Smile, it drives Democrats  crazy.

No Truer Words

No truer words were ever spoken, on a level all can understand!

WE

ALL

SCREAM...

The COW AND THE ICE CREAM
ONE OF THE BEST THEORIES OF WHY OBAMA WON THE ELECTION

clip_image001
-->From a teacher in the Nashville area - -

"We are worried about 'the cow' when it is all about the 'Ice Cream. 'The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching 3rd grade. The last Presidential election was heating up and some of the children showed an interest. I decided we would have an election for a class president. We would choose our nominees. They would make a campaign speech and the class would vote. To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members. We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have. We got many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia were picked to run for the top spot.
The class had done a great job in their selections. Both candidates were good kids.
I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of parental support.
I had never seen Olivia's mother.
The day arrived when they were to make their speeches.
Jamie went first.
He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place.
He ended by promising to do his very best.
Everyone applauded and he sat down.
Now is was Olivia's turn to speak.
Her speech was concise. She said, "If you will vote for me, I will give you ice cream." She sat down.
The class went wild. "Yes! Yes! We want ice cream."
She surely would say more. She did not have to.
A discussion followed. How did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She wasn't sure. But no one pursued that question. They took her at her word.
Would her parents buy it or would the class pay for it...She didn't know.
The class really didn't care. All they were thinking about was ice cream...
Jamie was forgotten. Olivia won by a landslide.
Every time Barack Obama opened his mouth he offered ice cream and 51.4 % of the people reacted like nine year old's.
They want ice cream.
The other 48.6% percent know they're going to have to feed the cow and clean up the mess."
This is the ice cream Obama promised us!

clip_image002
Remember, the government cannot give anything to anyone that they have not first taken away from someone else.
Did you vote for the ice cream?

THAT MY FRIEND, IS HOW OBAMA GOT ELECTED...

BY THOSE WHO WANT EVERYTHING FOR FREE!

A Busy Day

Today was an eventful day. I baked sugar cookies using a recipe from my fourth-grade teacher, Frances Mary Tompkins. After cleaning up the dishes, I headed to AMC Theater Regency 20 to see Hansel & Gretel – Witch Hunter. It was a great movie, an interesting twist on one of my favorite fairy tales. I’m not going to spoil the ending for you. You’ll have to see it yourself.

I stopped for groceries on the way home and earned another 20 cent fuel perk for the next time I get gas..

After I got home, I did some work on my computer, warmed up the leftovers from last night’s dinner, and settled in to watch NCIS, NCIS-LA, and Vegas.

I’ll be going to bed once Vegas is over. Tomorrow, I plan to test the last two of the three recipes I have left to test before I can finsih my Gang Mills Cooks: Cookies. I’ll be glad to finish the testing – those cookies are such a temptation.

Until next time…

Only in America

TOP-11 "ONLY IN AMERICA " OBSERVATIONS -- BY A CANADIAN*

1) Only in America could the rich people - who pay 86% of all income taxes - be accused of not paying their "fair share" by people who don't pay any income taxes at all.
2) Only in America could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when they have a black President, a black Attorney General, and roughly 18% of the federal workforce is black while only 12% of the population is black
3) Only in America could they have had the two people most responsible for our tax code, Timothy Geithner, the head of the Treasury Department and Charles Rangel who once ran the Ways and Means
Committee, BOTH turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes.
4) Only in America can they have terrorists kill people in the name of Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims might be harmed by the backlash.
5) Only in America would they make people who want to legally become American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege while we discuss letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just 'magically' become
American citizens.
6) Only in America could the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country's Constitution be thought of as "extremists."
7) Only in America could you need to present a driver's license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.
8) Only in America could people demand the government investigate whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. oil company
( Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike).
9) Only in America could the government collect more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a Trillion dollars more than it has per year - for total spending of $7-Million PER MINUTE, and complain that it doesn't have nearly enough money.
10) Only in America could politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $35,000.00 a plate campaign fund-raising event.
11) Only in America can a man with no background, no qualifications and no experience ... and a complete failure at his job ... be reelected.

Parker

Went to AMC Theater today and saw the movie Parker starring Jason Statham, Jennifer Lopez, and Nick Nolte. It was an action-filled film with lots of blood and violence from people who didn’t have the least bit of humanity or a respect for life.

I remarked to Karen how interesting it was that it didn’t take long to start cheering one of the criminals over this other. This bad guy, played by Jason Statham, had a code of honor that you almost had to respect.

One must wonder how much effect watching all of this gruesomeness and violence must have on people, especially on young children.

We don’t seem to value life at all and this just confirms that.

We had a great lunch afterward at Genghis Grill.

I had put meat loaf in my crock pot before leaving for the movie. This accompanied by corn on the cob and a baked sweet potato made a great dinner.

A-OK

Finally, my computer is back to normal, I think. One of the techs from iTechline worked on it from around noon until around 8:30. He finally got it so Outlook will download my mail. I now have Office 2010 instead of 2003, but that’s okay.

I did make some cookies this morning.  Yes, my mom’s oatmeal drop cookies were so good I ate several. These are very different from her other oatmeal cookies. The first ones I made of hers were very chewy. The ones I made today were much lighter and very yummy.

I hope tomorrow to be able to get back to a more regular schedule. These last several days have been very chaotic and upsetting.

Until next time…

Mom’s Oatmeal Cookies

What a gorgeous day here in Florida! Warm, but not too hot. Sunny but a few clouds so it wasn’t excessively bright.

This morning, I made my mother’s oatmeal cookies. In the first test – yes, I had to test them twice –I neglected to put the flour mixture in with the rest of the batter. This batter is very stiff. even without the flour, so I guess I just forgot it. I threw away all of those cookies, but the second time was a charm *no, I didn’t have to make it “three times a charm.” These are very good cookies even though the only spice is cinnamon.

Tomorrow, I have to take my car in to have a motor mount and pinion seal repaired. I may get to my mom’s drop oatmeal cookies in the afternoon. We’ll see. Speaking of which, she called one Oatmeal Cookies and one Oatmeal Drop Cookies even though both are dropped by spoonful onto the cookie sheet.

Until next time…

Microsoft and Carrabba’s

Late again before I could working on my blog. I kind of waited around for Microsoft to call or contact me, but no one did. I just hope I’m not missing appointments store in my Outlook calendar.

Tonight, Richard and Karen and I went to Carrabba’s where I had Beef Brasato and the two of them had spaghetti. Last year, the Bee Brasato came with Polenta; this year it’s with Orzo. I like the polenta better, but the Orzo is pretty good, especially if you add a little butter to it. I’m glad I have some left over so I can have it again tomorrow.

It’s supposed to be a little cooler over the next few days. It’s been a little hot, but beautiful.

Microsoft Support

Sorry to be so late getting this done, but I have literally been on the phone and PC with Microsoft support since around noon until now (23:50) and will be getting a call back tomorrow morning around 7 am.

Did I mention how much I hate Windows 8? Maybe, once they get it fixed, I’ll like it better.

I didn’t even bake any cookies today because I didn’t want to run into problems with it.

Good night, all.

Cookies and Computers

Uncle Floyd's Oatmeal Drop Cookies

Today, I re-tested my Uncle Floyd’s Oatmeal Cookies. They are delicious!. I baked them right after I put a meatloaf in my crockpot. Wow, was that ever good! Along with my meat loaf, since I was baking cookies anyway, I baked a sweet potato.

As you know if you read this blog, I am making an effort this year to learn to like some vegetables. My vegetable for this quarter is sweet potatoes. I put butter and salt and pepper on my sweet potato and absolutely loved it. Truly! I think when I have had them before that they were always doctored up with brown sugar or spices or marshmallows. This plain, buttered sweet potato was something I could eat quite often.

I’ve downloaded a few sweet potato recipes I’ll be trying, but I think I can say my goal for this quarter as far as vegetables go, has been met. I may have to start my next quarter’s vegetable early or change my goals to 1 vegetable each month..

As to my computer, have I mentioned how much I hate Windows 8? Today, after spending a couple of hours trying to uninstall and re-install Outlook, I called Microsoft support to see if they could install my Outlook. They worked for a couple of hours and finally said they had to do some research and would call tomorrow to finish fixing it.

In the meantime, I can do a few things on the computer, but am hesitant to do too much. Who knows what they’ll have to do tomorrow.

Until next time…

The Land and The Book

This morning, after testing my Uncle Floyd’s Oatmeal Drop Cookies, I went with Esther to the Heritage Baptist Church in Lakeland where we watched the taping of two shows for The Land and The Book that is on Moody Radio. It was very interesting. One of their guest told about the many Muslims who are having dreams that Jesus is visiting them and reaching out to them. There have been hundreds, if not thousands of conversions as a result. He wrote a book called Dreams and Visions about some of these experiences.

After that, we went to the Olive Garden at Lakeland Mall for lunch. Delicious!

By the way, the oatmeal cookies were delicious: spice and crisp even though the batter was quite moist. They had allspice, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves in them, some of my favorites.

Tomorrow I’ll be testing two kinds of my mother’s oatmeal cookies. I’m also going to put a meatloaf in the crockpot and have bought sweet potatoes to go with them. I do not really like sweet potatoes, but this is my vegetable I’m determined to like before the end of this quarter. With the meatloaf, I’ll also be able to sneak in some vegetables (carrots and celery) that I am not that fond of and apple, which I am fond of. I’ll also use onions, garlic, green and Jalapeno peppers in the the meatloaf. Is your mouth watering yet?

Until next time...

No Cookies Today

Since I had to take my car in to find out why the Check Engine Light was on, I didn’t spend any time testing cookies. Tomorrow morning, I’m scheduled to go to Lakeland with my sister-in-law Esther to see Moody Radio’s The Land and The Book program. Depending on when I get home, I will be testing at least one of the oatmeal cookie recipes. Or, if I wake up at 3 am and can’t go back to sleep, I might test at least one recipe.

There seems to be a little kink in my catalytic converter which is causing my Check Engine Light to come on. The muffler guy recommended just putting up with the light coming on since it is not affecting performance. Next week, I’ll be taking the car in to have a motor mount fixed and to have the pinion seal replaced – not nearly the price tag of a catalytic converter.

I’ve been working today on some goals for this year. This is not really anything to do with New Year’s resolutions, but does give you something to shoot for. I set goals for Health, Finances, Relationships, and Spiritual Life.

For example, I would like to lose at least one-half of the 90 pounds I have to go (that’s 45 pounds for my math-challenged friends) by the end of the year (actually I’d like to lose it by next week, but that’s unrealistic),

In terms of Financial goals, I want to stick to my budget and would like to make a little more money every month – I’m working on a cookbook and want to publish it and some other stuff on Amazon Kindle.

By the way, did you know you don’t have to have a Kindle to be able to buy Kindle books? You can download the app to your PC and read them on your computer. Kindle books, since they don’t involve paper and storage, etc., are sold for about half the price of the hardcover or paperbacks. You might want to keep that in mind when it comes to getting my books on Kindle.

Well, I think I’m going to go take a nap (finish the Janet Evanovich book I’m reading and play a little Scrabble until I get sleep).

Until next time…

Buzzers and Warning from Shell Oil

Buzzers

Today, I spent my day directed by buzzers. I washed and dried three loads of laundry. When the washer is done, the buzzer sounds. When the dryer is done, the buzzer sounds. SIX buzzers.

I made cookies today, both Uncle Floyd’s Chocolate Drop Cookies and Chocolate Jumbles.. Each batch was timed on my Microwave kitchen timer application. This time gives FIVE loud harsh beeps when the timer goes off. Some of the time, I had to add a few minutes and set the timer again. More buzzers. Another SIX or more buzzers.

I’ll probably lay awake tonight wondering when the next buzzer will go off.

Buzzers are a great thing. They get your attention and remind you of things you need to remember, But, boy, can they be annoying!

Both batches of cookies turned out great. Uncle Floyd’s Chocolate Drop Cookies were some of the best cookies I’ve made yet. The Chocolate Jumbles have cinnamon in them and are much lighter than the Chocolate Drop Cookies.

Tomorrow, I have to take my car in to have the Check Engine Light checked so I may not do any cookie recipe testing until Saturday. The cookies I have to test yet are:

  • Mom’s Oatmeal Cookies
  • Mom’s Oatmeal Drop Cookies
  • Uncle Floyd’s Oatmeal Drop Cookies
  • Aunt Ruth’s Molasses Cookies
  • Mom’s Drop Molasses Cookies
  • Uncle Floyd’s Molasses Drop Cookies
  • Aunt Fanny’s Dropped Sugar Cookies
  • Frances Tompkins’ Old-Fashioned Sugar Cookies
  • Mom’s Soft Sugar Cookies
  • Sugar Cookies
  • Uncle Floyd’s Sugar Cookies

Once the testing is done, I’ll have to finish up the cookbook and then should be ready to publish it and my Ghost of Gang Mills book and some other stuff on the Kindle.

WARNING FROM SHELL OIL COMPANY DO NOT DELETE, PLEASE READ

"Treasure today--Tomorrow might be too late"

WARNING FROM SHELL OIL COMPANY DO

NOT DELETE, PLEASE READ

Please send this information to ALL your family & friends, especially those who have kids in the car with them while pumping gas. If this were to happen, they may not be able to get the children out in time.
MUST READ, EVEN IF YOU DON'T OWN A CAR.

Shell Oil Comments - A MUST READ!
Safety Alert!
Here are some reasons why we don't allow cell phones in operating areas, propylene oxide handling and storage area, propane, gas and diesel refueling areas.
The Shell Oil Company recently issued a warning after three incidents in which mobile phones (cell phones) ignited fumes during fueling operations
In the first case, the phone was placed on the car's trunk lid during fueling; it rang and the ensuing fire destroyed the car and the gasoline pump.
In the second, an individual suffered severe burns to their face when fumes ignited as they answered a call while refueling their car!
And in the third, an individual suffered burns to the thigh and groin as fumes ignited when the phone, which was in their pocket, rang while they were fueling their car.
You should know that: Mobile Phones can ignite fuel or fumes
Mobile phones that light up when switched on or when they ring release enough energy to provide a spark for ignition
Mobile phones should not be used in filling stations, or when fueling lawn mowers, boat, etc.
Mobile phones should not be used, or should be turned off, around other materials that generate flammable or explosive fumes or dust, (I.e., solvents, chemicals, gases, grain dust, etc...)
TO sum it up, here are the Four Rules for Safe Refueling:
1) Turn off engine
2) Don't smoke

3) Don't use your cell phone - leave it inside the vehicle or turn it off
4) Don't re-enter your vehicle during fueling
.
Bob Renkes of Petroleum Equipment Institute is working on a campaign to try and make people aware of fires as a result of 'static electricity' at gas pumps. His company has researched 150 cases of these fires.
His results were very surprising:
1) Out of 150 cases, almost all of them were women.
2) Almost all cases involved the person getting back in their vehicle while the nozzle was still pumping gas. When finished, they went back to pull the nozzle out and the fire started, as a result of static.
3) Most had on rubber-soled shoes.
4) Most men never get back in their vehicle until completely finished. This is why they are seldom involved in these types of fires.
5) Don't ever use cell phones when pumping gas
6) It is the vapors that come out of the gas that cause the fire, when connected with static charges.
7) There were 29 fires where the vehicle was re-entered and the nozzle was touched during refueling from a variety of makes and models. Some resulted in extensive damage to the vehicle, to the station, and to the customer.
8) Seventeen fires occurred before, during or immediately after the gas cap was removed and before fueling began.
Mr. Renkes stresses to NEVER get back into your vehicle while filling it with gas.
If you absolutely HAVE to get in your vehicle while the gas is pumping, make sure you get out, close the door TOUCHING THE METAL, before you ever pull the nozzle out. This way the static from your body will be discharged before you ever remove the nozzle.
As I mentioned earlier, The Petroleum Equipment Institute, along with several other companies now, are really trying to make the public aware of this danger.
I ask you to please send this information to ALL your family and friends, especially those who have kids in the car with them while pumping gas. If this were to happen to them, they may not be able to get the children out in time.

Thanks for passing this along.

More Cookies

At 3 this morning, I took the first batch of sour cream cookies out of the oven. They are so good -- light and airy, delicately flavored. Today, I made some Pecan and Cashew Sandies, which I didn’t like very much. Unless I can make them taste better to me, I’m not going to put them in my cookbook.

I made the Cashew Sandies with Emerald Sea Salt and Black Pepper cashews so they would have a little zing. Well, they had the zing alright, but I didn’t like the consistency of the dough or how dry it is.

I had more trouble with my new computer last night, but iTechline fixed them Hope that is the end of the problems. Of course, I still have to put up with Windows 8 – did I mention how much I do not like Windows 8?

Waiting

I spent most of today waiting.

I waited at home until it was time to go with my cousin Richard to the eye doctor.

I waited for him while he was at the eye doctor’s.

On the way home, Richard and I waited on the Howard Franklin Bridge for almost an hour until we could get past a terrible accident.

After getting home, I had to wait for three batches of perfect pumpkin cookies to come out of the oven.

I went to the AMC Theater to see Jack Reacher and had to wait in line to buy a ticket.

I then I had to wait in line to buy popcorn and a drink.

I had to wait for First Look to be over and the Previews to start.

I had to wait through a half hour of Previews until the movie started (By the way, the movie was very good with Robert Duvall stealing the show.)

Isn’t it great that I’m a patient person or all of that waiting would turn my hair gray.

Until next time --- if you can wait that long.
