Chili for the Cold

Tonight, it’s supposed to go down to 66 here in Florida. This afternoon, I made some chili to prepare for the cold. Of course, tomorrow, it’ll probably be back up in the 80’s or 90’s, but I love chili no matter what the temperature.

I got this email to day and have forwarded it to a few people. I just had to share it with you. It is hilarious. I’ve known people like this guy. I bet you do too.

RETIREDHUSBAND

After I retired, my wife insisted that I accompany her on her trips to Target.
Unfortunately, like most men, I found shopping boring and preferred to get in and get out. Equally unfortunate, my wife is like most women - she loves to browse.

Yesterday my dear wife received the following letter from the local Target:

Dear Mrs. Harris,
Over the past six months, your husband has caused quite a commotion in our store. We cannot tolerate this behavior and have been forced to ban both of you from the store. Our complaints against your husband, Mr. Harris, are listed below and are documented by our video surveillance cameras:

1. June 15: He took 24 boxes of condoms and randomly put them in other people's carts when they weren't looking.

2. July 2: Set all the alarm clocks in Housewares to go off at 5-minute intervals.

3. July 7: He made a trail of tomato juice on the floor leading to the women's restroom.

4. July 19: Walked up to an employee and told her in an official voice, 'Code 3 in Housewares. Get on it right away'. This caused the employee to leave her assigned station and receive a reprimand from her Supervisor that in turn resulted with a union grievance, causing management to lose time and costing the company money.

5. August 4: Went to the Service Desk and tried to put a bag of M&Ms on layaway.

6. August 14: Moved a 'CAUTION - WET FLOOR' sign to a carpeted area.

7. August 15: Set up a tent in the camping department and told the children shoppers he'd invite them in if they would bring pillows and blankets from the bedding department to which twenty children obliged.

8. August 23: When a clerk asked if they could help him he began crying and screamed, 'Why can't you people just leave me alone?' EMTs were called.

9.. September 4: Looked right into the security camera and used it as a mirror while he picked his nose.

10. September 10: While handling guns in the hunting department, he asked the clerk where the antidepressants were.

11. October 3: Darted around the store suspiciously while loudly humming the ' Mission Impossible' theme.

12. October 6: In the auto department, he practiced his 'Madonna look' by using different sizes of funnels.

13. October 18: Hid in a clothing rack and when people browsed through, yelled 'PICK ME! PICK ME!'

14. October 21: When an announcement came over the loud speaker, he assumed a fetal position and screamed 'OH NO! IT'S THOSE VOICES AGAIN!'

And last, but not least:

15. October 23: Went into a fitting room, shut the door, waited awhile, then yelled very loudly, 'Hey! There's no toilet paper in here.' One of the clerks passed out.

Today, I installed gauges on my propane tanks. Since I go my new travel trailer, I have used less than 1/2 of a tank of propane. Not too shabby. Tomorrow, I’m going to mix up some sourdough starter and then start experimenting with various forms of sourdough bread and sourdough biscuits.

I also want to make some more corn muffins. I love those.

Until next time…

Overwhelming

Just finished watching Glenn Beck’s TV show at GBTV.com. What a show! He and his guests discussed the Muslim Brotherhood and the conference they held in Chicago, IL, on 6/26/2011, During the conference, they talked about the need and how to overthrow the American Republic, put an end to capitalism, and replace it with a Khilafah or Califate where Sharia law reigns. They don’t think the people can really rule themselves, but only Allah can.

The Muslim Brotherhood is active from city to city and from country to country and are joining with communists, socialists, radicals and Marxists to bring chaos to society so they can take over, eliminate capitalism, nationalism, and tribalism. Then the country would be under Sharia law.

This has happened before (in 1979) where groups like this got together. They ousted the Shah of Iran and took over there.

Glenn cautioned his audience to believe what these people are saying. Under Sharia law, people who failed to follow Islam would be executed,

If you didn’t get to see this, please go to GBTV.com and check it out. The first 14 days are free, but I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t want to watch every day.

I really believe this is a good vs evil thing. We must stand up for good.

No doubt, I’m not doing a good job making this threat to our great country clear. Please go out to GBTV and check for yourself.

I went to the bank to deposit a couple of checks then to Publix for groceries. I haven’t been reading as much, but have to get back to it or I’ll have to renew some library books.

Until next time…

Denny’s Again

Richard and I went to Denny’s for dinner tonight and we each had a Mac ‘N Cheese Big Daddy Pattie Melt. It was just as good as I remembered, as was the strawberry cheesecake milkshake.

Star of David

Did you hear about the Iraqi immigrant living in St. Louis, MO, who had a star of David carved into his back because he wrote a poem because of his public support for Israel and the Jewish people. He wrote a poem in Arabic called “ Tears at the Heart of the Holocaust.”

Interesting, the FBI is investigating, but has not yet labeled it a “hate crime.” Not that I necessarily think any crime should be labeled a “hate” crime, just odd that those who are usually so quick to assign this attribute to crimes against certain people, fail to do so in this case. Can you believe that this happened in the United States of America?

Convert or Die

In Iran, there is a man who converted from Islam to Christianity and later became a pastor. He has been found guilty of apostasy and faces death if he fails to recant. Aren’t you glad we still have some semblance of religious freedom here?

Arming the Warships

Speaking of Iran, yesterday I mentioned that they are threatening to send warships to our coast. Today, Drudge reports that Iran is suspected of stealing surface-to-air missiles from Libya. I also read somewhere that Iran is arming its warhips with cruise missiles.  Scary, huh?

Too Close for Comfort

Dr. Salah Sultan, member of the Muslim Brotherhood, who called for every Zionist who visited Egypt to be killed, recently resided in Columbus, OH, where he allegedly lectured at a local, Islamic elementary school (Sunrise Academy). He still owns a home in the USA and has family living here. If you have children, I hope you are paying attention to what they are learning and hearing in school.

Home Again, Home Again Jiggity Jig

I left Jeff’s about 9 this morning and arrived home at 6 tonight. Th trip started with a traffic backup on I-85. This cost me about 30 – 45 minutes, but I still made it home in pretty good time.

As soon as I got home, before I could unload the truck, it began pouring. I quickly got the essentials in. The rest will wait until tomorrow.

After I hooked up my computer, I checked theblaze.com and saw a couple of disturbing stories: A woman in Saudi Arabia (where women will get to vote and hold office by 2015), was given 10 lashes for driving a car, in defiance of a ban on women driving. Also, an Egyptian cleric has stated on al Jazeera that “Every Zionist (for this read Jew) who enters Egypt – tourist or not -  should be killed.”

Did you see that Ford has pulled an ad that criticizes the car company bailout? The car buyer in the ad said he bought a Ford because Ford didn’t take bailout money. One of the primary reasons I chose my Ford F150 was because Ford didn’t take bailout money. It is rumored that the White House pressured Ford to pull the ad, but Ford denies the allegation.

Did you hear about Bev Perdue, governor of NC, suggesting that Congressional elections be suspended for two years?

Iran is threatening to send worships to the US shores. Is this a precursor for their delivery of bombs that produce EMPs?

Currently watching NCIS and looking forward to NCIS – LA and Body of Proof.

Until next time…

Scary Scary

Campbell Middle School in Cobb County, GA has had to adjust its curriculum on the Mideast. You won’t believe what they sent home as an assignment. It seems to endorse the use of Sharia law. This article spells it out:

http://www.mdjonline.com/view/full_story/15623492/article-School%E2%80%99s-curriculum-on-Mideast-adjusted-after-parent-protests?instance=home_viewed

On Another Note:

Although we should have learned by now that nothing is sacred and nothing is safe from those whose mission it is to destroy America, it’s still shocking to learn that jihadist terrorist organizations have infiltrated the Boy Scouts of America.

AARON KLEIN SAYS ” This is the kind of irony that can turn your stomach.”

The Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamic organization responsible for the creation of Hamas, has infiltrated the BSA, not only through mosques and worship centers that establish and sponsor scouting programs, but also through direct partnership with BSA.

clip_image001Boy Scouts of America was founded in 1910, during the height of the progressive era in the United States due to concerns among some that young men were no longer learning patriotism and individualism. BSA epitomized the Christian values of America’s founding fathers for decades. Today, however, Boy Scouts of America is riddled with terrorist organizations who are recruiting and training youth — by the thousands — for their own causes.

clip_image002Boy Scouts of America welcomes diverse religions and has incorporated them into its program giving scouts an opportunity to earn badges or emblems by participating in religious activities.

The Islamic scouting emblems include an Allahu Akbar emblem. Allahu Akbar (‘Allah is greater’) are the very same words shouted by many Islamic terrorists and suicide bombers in the moments just before they kill (in the name of Allah).

clip_image003Almost 30 years ago, Boy Scouts of America entered into a partnership with the Islamic Council on Scouting of North America, an organization in New York that expressed a desire to promote scouting in local Muslim communities. That partnership opened the door to a dangerous and radical form of Islam, welcoming the ICSNA in to recruit and train new generations of jihadists right under our noses.

ICSNA was chaired by Dr. Muzamil Siddiqui, an Islamic scholar who served as Chairman of the Religious Affairs Committee of a Muslim Brotherhood founded organization, Muslim Students Association (MSA).

Once accepted into BSA, the ICSNA immediately began the formation of a National Islamic Committee of the Boy Scouts of America to spread Islamic scouting across the nation. An ad hoc clip_image004committee was formed under the Chairmanship of Ambassador Youssouf Sylla, representative to the United Nations of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

Thanks to the work of the ICSNA’s national committee, several Islamic scout units have been formed throughout the U.S. and more Muslim Brotherhood organizations, like the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), were accepted into the BSA.

BSA states regarding its relationship with the Islamic Society of North America: “ISNA has had a relationship with the Boy Scouts of America for over a decade, and the ISNA secretary general recently signed the relationship document in the ISNA’s annual convention at Chicago.”

clip_image005Last year, Klein reported that the Obama administration has “an extensive relationship” with ISNA and that the organization was an unindicted co-conspirator in a scheme to raise money for Hamas. Klein went on to say that, according to Islam scholar Stephen Schwartz, ISNA is “one of the chief conduits through which the radical Saudi form of Islam passes into the United States.”. Heading Home

Tomorrow, I’ll be heading home to Florida, leaving around 9am after most of the traffic is gone.

Brunch at Shoney’s

This morning, I had the privilege of brunch at Shoney’s with my friend Carolyn and several members of her family. I rarely get to eat at Shoney’s anymore since almost all of the Shoney’s in Florida were closed sever years ago. Even better though was getting to spend time with my dear friends. You probably know people like that: even though you haven’t seen them in a while, it’s just like you last saw them only yesterday.

The six-hour drive back to Jeff’s was uneventful. I got back just a little after six pm and enjoyed some wonderful bean soup my brother Jeff made. It was funny: right after I pulled in the driveway, my sister-in-law Kathy pulled in and right after she pulled in, my nephew Greg came. We couldn’t have planned it better if we tried.

Needless to say, after that fairly long drive, I am beat.

Until next time…

A Beautiful Wedding

Today was a great day. I got to see a beautiful wedding and to see some of my favorite people: Carolyn, her daughter Saundra and her husband Steve, her son Bruce, who lives in Canandaigua, the bride Megan. I also got to meet some special people: the groom Chris and Bruce’s girlfriend Carrie. I wish all of you could know these folks. They are some of the finest onearth.

I don’t know what I would have done without Homer Simpson to tell me how to get where I needed to go. He took me right where I needed to go except I didn’t listen when he told me I was at the place where the reception was held. It was the Cypress Inn at 16 Elm Street in Conway. The food was really good. There were three layers of wedding cake with a choice of red velvet or marble. I had the red velvet.

Of course, just before we got to where The Cypress Inn, it began to pour, but I didn’t melt.

Following are some pictures I took:

 Megans Wedding-05

Saundra is walking Megan down the aisle.

Megans Wedding-12        The happy bride and groom.

Megans Wedding-18         Bruce with Carolyn

This has just been one of these days where I couldn’t stop smiling.

Tomorrow, I’m meeting Carolyn, Saundra, Steve, Megan, Chris, Bruce and Carrie at Waffle House for brunch, then I’ll be heading back to my brother’s.

Until next time…

Who Has the World’s Largest Army?

Just in case you haven't seen this before. True story and most people will never know it.

Here's an interesting side bar. After the Japanese decimated our fleet in Pearl Harbor Dec 7, 1941, they could have sent their troop ships and carriers directly to California to finish what they started. The prediction from our Chief of Staff was we would not be able to stop a massive invasion until they reached the Mississippi River . Remember, we had a 2 million man army and war ships....all fighting the Germans. So, why did they not invade?

After the war, the remaining Japanese generals and admirals were asked that question. Their answer....they know that almost every home had guns and the Americans knew how to use them.
The world's largest army...

America 's hunters!

I had never thought about this....
A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and arrived at a striking conclusion:
There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin .

Allow me to restate that number.
Over the last several months, Wisconsin 's hunters became the eighth largest army in the world. More men under arms than in Iran .
More than in France and Germany combined. These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt with firearms, and no one was killed.

That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of Pennsylvania and Michigan 's 700,000 hunters,
All of whom have now returned home.

Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally establishes the fact that The hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.

The point?

America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower. Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security.
*************************************************
That's why all enemies, foreign and domestic, want to see us disarmed.

Food for thought when next we consider gun control.

Today, I traveled from my brother’s in Lawrenceville, GA, to Conway, SC for my friend Carolyn’s granddaughter’s wedding. For the most part, the trip was uneventful, except for the rainstorm when I was about 25 miles from my destination. At times, I could barely see the road because of the rain and the water bein sprayed up on the windshield.

It’s always nostalgic for me to go to South Carolina. I drove on I-20 right past Camden, SC, where my family used to go to visit my uncle Paul and aunt Lillian and their family. After we were married, Mark and I stopped by their house whenever we could. They’ve been gone for years, but I still have vivid memories of my aunt Lillian frying chicken and bacon. Her bacon was the best. She always got it sliced thick with the rind on. I’ve not been able to find any like that anywhere. And my uncle Paul had more fish stories and deer-hunting stories than you can imagine.

My cousin Jones and his wife Nel still live in Camden and I’ll get to see them when I attend their younger daughter Paula’s wedding next month.

I finally finished The Rembrandt Affair and am looking forward to reading my next book.

Well, I think it’s time for a much deserved nap.

Until next time…

More Interesting Facts

Yesterday, I discussed the treatment of the Jews in Holland. I’ve been doing more research today and have discovered that Hitler also hated Jehovah’s Witnesses. From: http://www.webster.edu/~woolflm/netherlands.html

“However, one factor was certainly clear. Hitler could not control the Witnesses nor gain their allegiance. The Witnesses refused to serve in Hitler's army as they were already in the army of Jehovah. The Witnesses refused to salute Hitler as their allegiance was to God. As such, the Witnesses continued their teaching and publications in spite of increasing persecution and assault at the hands of the Nazis.

Additionally, the Witnesses established an underground network. This network served many functions including hiding Witnesses who were being sought by the Nazis and those who had recently escaped from neighboring countries. The underground also played a role in the transport and distribution of food. This included not only food for the body but spiritual food in the form of literature and readings.

Finally, one could argue that the Witnesses engaged in an occupation long strike against involvement in the Nazi war effort. Witnesses refused to serve in the military. They refused to be involved in the production of war materials and supplies. This resistance was consistently met with Nazi hostility and resulted in imprisonment and potential loss of life.

Acts of resistance on the part of the Dutch and Jehovah's Witnesses provide us with models of courage in the face of atrocities. They provide for us lessons in the value of belief, of community, and of involvement. “

I also was reminded by Glenn Beck about Corey Ten Boom and her book The Hiding Place. If you haven’t read it, please do. Of course, you have probably heard of Anne Frank who, with her family, was taken to the concentration camps from Holland by the Germans.

We must work to make sure this never happens again. Stand with Israel and against anti-Semitism.

Tomorrow, I head for Conway, SC, to attend the wedding of my friend Carolyn’s granddaughter Megan. I’m sure looking forward to seeing the whole family. It’s supposed to take a little over five hours.

In view of that, I’d better get to bed. I plan to leave by 7 am.

Until next time…

Bass Pro Shop

Today, I went to Bass Pro Shop, one of my favorite stores. My only purchases were a bag of Maple Brown Sugar Ham Jerky and a Butterfinger I just couldn’t resist.

I spent a couple of hours after I got home watching the Glenn Beck show on GBTV. His new show is more than twice as good as the one he did on Fox: it’s twice as long and doesn’t have quite as many commercials. The best thing about it is you can watch it whenever you want after it is aired live on the Internet. The normal time is 5-7 pm at GBTV.com. You can sign up for a free two week trial. You can also watch previous episodes on demand at the same site.

I’m reading Daniel Silva’s book The Rembrandt Affair. In the book, he discusses what the Germans did after they invaded Poland and after the Netherlands fell. The following are some notes I took from the book and from research I did on the Internet:

In January, 1941, the Nazis decreed that all Jews residing in Holland had to register with the Dutch census office within 4 weeks. Refusal would result in imprisonment and confiscation of their properties. This provided the Germans with the name, address, age and six of nearly every Jew in Holland.

A number of decrees followed:

  1. Jews were forbidden to give blood.
  2. Jews were not allowed to enter hotels or eat in restaurants.
  3. Jews were forbidden to attend the theater, visit public libraries, or view art exhibits.
  4. Jews were forbidden to serve on the stock exchange
  5. They could no longer own pigeons.
  6. Jewish children were barred from “Aryan” schools.
  7. Jews were required to surrender art collections and all jewelry except wedding bands and pocket watches.
  8. Jews were required to deposit all savings in Lippman, Rosenthal & Company, a formerly Jewish-owned bank taken over by the Nazis.
  9. As of April 29, 1942, Jews over the age of six were required to wear a yellow star of David at all times while in public – not pinned on, but sewn on.
  10. Eventually, Jews could not leave their homes at night.
  11. Jews were not allowed to enter the homes of non-Jews.
  12. Jews were forbidden to use public telephones.
  13. Jews were forbidden to ride on trains or streetcars.

Eventually, Jews were rounded up and deported for “labor service.” Healthy ones did work in labor camps under the most horrific conditions. The young, the elderly and disabled were exterminated. 75% or 105,000 of all Jews in Holland were killed during the Holocaust.

If you are paying any attention to what’s happening in the world right now, you know that the Jews are once again coming under attack. How can this be? Iran has vowed to wipe Israel off the map and eliminate all Jews. The Palestinian Authority, currently seeking state status at the UN, wants their country to be Jew-free. Every day, Jews in Israel face the possibility of bombs falling.

Let’s stand with Israel against this evil.

Home from the Hospital

My cousin Richard came home from the hospital today. even though they wanted to keep him one more day. He said he spent most of the afternoon sleeping. I think they may have given him some medicine that makes him sleepy

I read until 3 am, but I finished The Defector by Daniel Silva. What a great book. I’m currently reading The Rembrandt Affair, another interesting book by the same author.

My brother made breaded pork chops, green beans, fried potatoes and onions, and leftover Spanish rice for dinner. The pork chops were so tender they practically melted in my mouth. The rest of the stuff was also very scrumptious.

I’m looking forward to the season premier of NCIS, NCIS-LA, and Body of Proof. Body of Proof is a new show starring Dana Delaney as a Medical Examiner, of all things.

Incredible Slideshow

I re-shared this on Facebook – a heartbreaking slideshow of the flooding in the Binghamton, Endicott, Johnson City and surrounding areas.  Anyone familiar with the area will be saddened to learn that No. 5 was flooded. Hope they get it restored before I go up to New York again.

I went to WalMart today and picked up a few things (yes, I  did pay for them), worked on the wedding gift for my friend Carolyn’s granddaughter Megan and her husband, read about half way through another Daniel Silva book, and pretty much goofed off.

My brother grilled steak and made baked potatoes for dinner. It was so good.

My cousin Richard is still in the hospital, but is expecting to go home tomorrow.

Good News All Around

I spoke with my cousin Richard at the hospital today and he sounded upbeat. His blood pressure has gone down significantly and he’s lost a lot of weight (mostly fluid weight now that he’s on water pills). The doctor has also changed some of his medications. So glad to hear he’s on the mend.

My friend Karen finally called me. I’d been trying to get hold of her since Friday night, but she wasn’t answering her phone or her cell phone. After Richard going into the hospital unexpectedly, I really wondered if maybe the same thing happened to her, but she was fine. She said it was a long story and she’d explain when I got home.

The Buffalo Bills won today – hope they finally get a Super Bowl.

My nephew Greg just walked in so I guess I’ll post then right now.

9/11 Boatlift

Be sure to watch this video about the 9/11 boatlift from Manhattan. 500,000 people were boatlifted off the island in a very short time due to the help of the Coast Guard, ferry boats, private individuals. It is narrated by Tom Hanks.

Also, today is Constitution Day. Be sure to catch Schoolhouse Rock’s video presentation about the Constitution. It’s very entertaining and informative.

Finished another Dan Simmons book today and am starting another Daniel Silva book tonight.

I Don’t Know How She Does It

Today, I went to Discover Mills and saw the movie I Don’t Know How She Does It with Sarah Jessica Parker, Greg Kinnear, Pierce Brosnan, Kelsey Grammer, Jane Curtin, Seth Myers and Sarah Shahi (from Fairly Legal). If you get a chance, go see it. It’s a terrific movie. Everyone (all 6 or 7 people) was laughing out loud all of the way through the movie.

I really didn’t go to Discover Mills to go to the movies, but to walk around the mall. Unfortunately, when I got out of the truck, I found my knees weren’t up to the walk. Maybe another day.

My cousin Richard called. When he went to his appointment with his heart doctor today, his blood pressure was so high that the doctor put him in the hospital. Please pray for him. This was kind of unexpected and it’s hard to be here while he is in the hospital.

I’m still reading that great book by Lis Wiehl of Fox News. Hopefully, I’ll finish it tonight or tomorrow morning.

My brother made goulash tonight. It was as delicious as I expected. With it, he made garlic cheese bread. Yum. Yum.

Until next time…

No Comparison

I received the following in an email and thought it was worth sharing. If you don’t want to read the account of someone who knows Sarah Palin and what she is like, at least go to the bottom to read about all of Michele Obama’s assistants and what they are paid.

Very interesting facts on two very different ladies.
Sarah Palin
Whether you're a Democrat, Independent, or Republican....the second half of this email should make all of us very sick, send this on .....especially the second half......
READ TO THE VERY END! VERY ENLIGHTENING!!! AND VERY DISTURBING!!!
By Dewie Whetsell, Alaskan Fisherman.
As posted in comments on Greta's article referencing the MOVEON ad about Sarah Palin.
The last 45 of my 66 years I've spent in a commercial fishing town in Alaska . I understand Alaska politics but never understood national politics well until this last year. Here's the breaking point: Neither side of the Palin controversy gets it. It's not about persona, style, rhetoric, it's about doing things. Even Palin supporters never mention the things that I'm about to mention here.

1.Democrats forget when Palin was the Darling of the Democrats, because as soon as Palin took the Governor's office away from a fellow Republican and tough SOB, Frank Murkowski, she tore into the Republican's "Corrupt Bastards Club" (CBC) and sent them packing. Many of them are now residing in State housing and wearing orange jump suits The Democrats reacted by skipping around the yard, throwing confetti and singing, "la la la la" (well, you know how they are). Name another governor in this country that has ever done anything similar.

2.Now with the CBC gone, there were fewer Alaskan politicians to protect the huge, giant oil companies here. So she constructed and enacted a new system of splitting the oil profits called "ACES." Exxon (the biggest corporation in the world) protested and Sarah told them, "don't let the door hit you in the stern on your way out." They stayed, and Alaska residents went from being merely wealthy to being filthy rich. Of course, the other huge international oil companies meekly fell in line. Again, give me the name of any other governor in the country that has done anything similar.

3.The other thing she did when she walked into the governor's office is she got the list of State requests for federal funding for projects, known as "pork." She went through the list, took 85% of them and placed them in the "when-hell-freezes-over" stack. She let locals know that if we need something built, we'll pay for it ourselves. Maybe she figured she could use the money she got from selling the previous governor's jet because it was extravagant. Maybe she could use the money she saved by dismissing the governor's cook (remarking that she could cook for her own family), giving back the State vehicle issued to her, maintaining that she already had a car, and dismissing her State-provided security force (never mentioning - I imagine - that she's packing heat herself). I'm still waiting to hear the names of those other governors.

4.Now, even with her much-ridiculed "gosh and golly" mannerism, she also managed to put together a totally new approach to getting a natural gas pipeline built which will be the biggest private construction project in the history of North America. No one else could do it although they tried. If that doesn't impress you, then you're trying too hard to be unimpressed while watching her do things like this while baking up a batch of brownies with her other hand.

5.For 30 years, Exxon held a lease to do exploratory drilling at a place called Point Thompson. They made excuses the entire time why they couldn't start drilling. In truth they were holding it like an investment. No governor for 30 years could make them get started. Then, she told them she was revoking their lease and kicking them out. They protested and threatened court action. She shrugged and reminded them that she knew the way to the court house. Alaska won again.

6.President Obama wants the nation to be on 25% renewable resources for electricity by 2025. Sarah went to the legislature and submitted her plan for Alaska to be at 50% renewable by 2025. We are already at 25%. I can give you more specifics about things done, as opposed to style and persona. Everybody wants to be cool, sound cool, look cool. But that's just a cover-up. I'm still waiting to hear from liberals the names of other governors who can match what mine has done in two and a half years. I won't be holding my breath.
By the way, she was content to return to Alaska after the national election and go to work, but the haters wouldn't let her. Now these adolescent screechers are obviously not scuba divers. And no one ever told them what happens when you continually jab and pester a barracuda. Without warning, it will spin around and tear your face off. Shoulda known better.

You have just read the truth about Sarah Palin that sends the media, along with the Democrat party, into a wild uncontrolled frenzy to discredit her.I guess they are only interested in skirt chasers, dishonesty, immoral people, liars, womanizers, murderers, and bitter ex-presidents' wives.

So "You go, Girl." I only wish the men in Washington had your guts, determination, honesty, and morals. I rest my case. Only FOOLS listen to the biased media
NOWIf you've read this far ...................................................now, open your eyes..........

There has NEVER been anyone in the White House at any time who has created such an army of staffers whose sole duties are the facilitation of the First Lady's social life. One wonders why she needs so much help, at taxpayer expense, when even Hillary, only had three;Jackie Kennedy one; Laura Bush one; and prior to Mamie Eisenhower social help came from the President's own pocket.

Note: This does not include makeup artist Ingrid Grimes-Miles, 49, and "First Hairstylist" Johnny Wright, 31, both of whom traveled aboard Air Force One to Europe.

Apollo 18

Today, I went to AMC Colonial 18 in Lawrenceville and saw Apollo 18. It was a movie that will keep you wondering until the end – lots of jump out of your seat action. Good thing there was no one else in the theater, because I screamed out loud more than a couple of times.

The rest of the day, I spent reading.

I Made It

Well, I arrived at my brother’s about 2 this afternoon. I left Thonotosassa about 5:30 this morning. Traffic was light and the day was beautiful.

Last night, my cousin Richard and I had the new Mac ‘n Cheese Big Daddy Pattie Melt. It was absolutely delicious. I’m ready to go there and eat another one. With it we each had a strawberry cheesecake milkshake. Wow, it was so good. Try one if you get a chance.

The new Glenn Beck TV show started last night. What a great show – already better because it is two hours instead of the one hour on Fox News. One of the objects of the show is to enlighten us on history that’s not being taught or that has been suppressed. Have you ever heard of the Black Toms? I was a history major in college, but I had never heard about it. Glenn discussed it in conjunction with when the first terrorist attack was made on the U.S. (hint: it was in 1917 and was done by Germans/German collaborators, ignored by Woodrow Wilson, then used by FDR to justify locking up the Japanese at the beginning of WWII>

My brother is cooking sausage with peppers and onions for dinner, accompanied by a special macaroni salad.

Early Post

I’m posting my blog early today because I want to get my computer packed up and ready to go before tomorrow.

I already went to the library and picked up about 20 books. That should keep me busy and out of trouble (trouble being spending money on books while I’m away because I wouldn’t have any – but now I do, so no spending money on books.) I got all the Daniel Silva books and all the books of a couple of other authors whose names I don’t remember – the books are in the truck and ready to go.

I had cleaned the inside of my windshield just before going to the library and set the glass cleaner in the passenger seat. I’m sure you’ve guess that wasn’t the best idea I’ve ever had. On the way back the glass cleaner tipped over. When i tried to grab it (while tooling down the road), I must have twisted it. I finally had the good sense and a safe place to pull off the road. When I opened the passenger door, the glass cleaner tipped the rest of the way and spilled a lot of its contents along the floor by the seat. I wiped it up with a bunch of paper towels, but the ammonia smell was still quite potent. When I got home a few minutes later, I used the hose to flush out the glass cleaner then left the back windows down to help air it out.

I hope the smell goes away before tomorrow or I’ll be riding with the windows down all of the way to my brother Jeff’s.

Tonight is the premier of GBTV (Glen Beck TV). From 5 – 7pm, Glen will be putting on his TV show, but over the Internet. It’s free for the first two weeks. Why not give it a try? You’ll see news there you won’t find in the lame-stream media. GBTV already has more subscribers than the Oprah network (OWN) has viewers. Glenn is supposed to be introducing a new and improved chalkboard.

GBTV also came out with a new app for your iPhone or iPad to allow you to listen to GBTV – I think for free… I know the app is. I already downloaded my from Apple today and was able to listen to the Glenn Beck radio program on it.

At 7, Dickie and I are going to Denny’s to try their new Mac ‘n Cheese Big Daddy Patty Melt – yes, just like it sounds. It’s a hamburger with mac ‘n cheese instead of just cheese. Sounds either really yummy or really yucky, depending on your preferences. I hope it’s as good as their bacon sundae.

Until next time…

A Beautiful Day

Today was another beautiful day in Florida although it did get up in the high eighties this afternoon. Fortunately, it wasn’t really hot when I was vacuuming out the inside of my truck and taking care of stuff to make room for my trip.

I’ve transferred my pots and pans to my new cabinet and have put my ice maker and yogurt make on top of it. There’s still lots of room in the cabinet. I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond today and got an expandable organizer tray. My counter next to the stovetop is much less cluttered with stuff now.

IMG_0228sm

(The purple thing standing next to my cabinet is my FAR Infrared Sauna – fits perfectly.)

 IMG_0229sm

Isn’t great that you can actually see the burners?

IMG_0230sm

I’m still deciding what needs to go into the drawer.

Sorry it took so long to get some pictures of this stuff for you.

Tomorrow I have some sanding to do, then load my truck and get ready for Tuesday morning when I head from my brother’s.

Until next time…

A Surprise

This morning, I watched the old movie With Six You Get Eggroll starring Brian Keith, Doris Day, Alice Ghostley, Pat Carroll, and even George Carlin. I think the movie was made in the 1950’s. To my surprise, I recognized Jamie Farr (Corporal Klinger on the TV show M.A.S.H.) who played a hippie goofball. I enjoyed the movie a lot.

I spent most of the day pulling stuff out of the back of my truck and sorting through it and organizing it.  Of course, I then put most of it back in the truck. Next, I have to tackle the back seat and front seats and vacuum. Can’t be traveling around the country with a dirty, messy truck.

Think it’s time for a nap.

Until next time…

The Debt

This morning, I went to see the movie The Debt with Helen Mirren. The movie was okay, though not my favorite type. I do not like books or movies that jump around in time. It’s a thriller and deals with three people who were in the Israeli Mossad and were chasing Nazi war criminals.

I have a coat of polyurethane on my bathroom shelves and on my new cabinet tap. I’m going to put a couple of more coats on the cabinet top. Tomorrow, I should be able to take a couple of pictures of the changes.

The following is part of an email my cousin Richard forwarded to me:

Appropriate Terminology

I got an email with this interesting info:

NOW I UNDERSTAND!
The English language has some wonderfully anthropomorphic collective nouns for various groups of animals.
We are all familiar with a Herd of cows, a Flock of chickens, a School of fish and a Gaggle of geese.
However, less widely known is a Pride of lions, a Murder of crows (as well as their cousins the rooks and ravens), an Exaltation of doves and, presumably because they look so wise, a Parliament of owls.
Now consider a group of Baboons. They are the loudest, most dangerous, most obnoxious, most viciously aggressive and least intelligent of all primates.
And what is the proper collective noun for a group of baboons? Believe it or not ....... a Congress!
I guess that pretty much explains the things that come out of Washington!
Look it up. A group of baboons is a Congress.

(and vice versa)

All Done – Well, David Is

My nephew David finished up the work on my camper today. He is such a good worker. After I get the polyurethane on my shelves, I’ll take some pictures so you can see. My cabinets are now much more usable. I have some shelves for knickknacks on both sides of my bed. I have a a couple more shelves in my bathroom. Last, but not least, I have a cabinet just as you come in my main door. It came with a half-shelf to make the space more usable and a huge drawer that I am looking forward to using. And, my FAR Infrared Sauna fits nicely right next to it.

Miscellaneous

It was so beautiful this morning (about 73 and breezy). What a nice change. It got a little warmer as the day went on, but now, it’s about 5 pm and looks like it might start pouring any minute.

Oh, I finished Iris Johansen’s book Quinn last night. I was so disgusted. She left it right at a crucial moment. Now, I have to wait until October 18th to find out what happened when her new book Bonnie comes out. I’m now reading Serpent’s Tooth by Faye Kellerman. I have one more Faye Kellerman book to read and I think I’ll have read all she has written. I wish I could read all of her Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus books again, but in order this time.

Until next time…

A Fitting Memorial

My cousin Ronnie, who is retired from the Navy, sent me the following:

Here SHE is, the USS New York, made from the World Trade Center!

ATT00028

USS New York

It was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the World Trade Center.

ATT00031

It is the fifth in a new class of warship - designed for missions that include special operations against terrorists. It will carry a crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be delivered ashore by helicopters and assault craft.

Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amite, LA to cast the ship's bow section. When it was poured into the molds on Sept 9, 2003, 'those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence,' recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there.

ATT00034

'It was a spiritual moment for everybody there.'

ATT00037

Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the trade center steel first arrived, he touched it with his hand and the 'hair on my neck stood up.' 'It had a big meaning to it for all of us,' he said. 'They knocked us down. They can't keep us down. We're going to be back.'

The ship's motto? 'Never Forget'

ATT00040

Oldies

My cousin Richard sent this. He got it in conjunction with his 50th high school reunion:

This is the neatest collection of oldies I have ever seen.   Some have commercials so you will just have to wade through them.    I enjoyed the Amos and Andy part,  it brought back many memories.   Also, the Lone Ranger and Victor Borge and much more.    I can remember some of these on radio when I was around ten years old.   Scroll and click enjoy.  Also music close to the end of the list.  What a great walk down memory lane.    The very last link ("juke box from 50's-80's") is a great link to the music of our era . . . pick the year and listen to all the songs, so save this link as a favorite.  I use this site when I work on the pc.  I start the music and then do my work on the pc with the music playing in the background.  I hope you all enjoy this.

Walt

Wow...the next time there is nothing worth watching on 250 channels of cable, we'll all be set!
The videos of the 50's and 60's music are a real trip down memory lane!

This will keep you entertained for the next ten years!!

Here is a web site like no other.  If you are over 50 - you will love this.  You can scroll down the list below and click and watch anything.  (Or you can view the same things at the web site in the link below.)  TV shows (we sure had some good ones), songs (you'll be singing along) - oh my - what a collection.  Just love this.  I think you will too.

Terrible Flooding

I just saw on Facebook that a state of emergency has been declared and parts of Broome County (the Binghamton area of upstate New York) are being evacuated. Please pray for those suffering from these disastrous storms that have dropped so much water in so many places – except Texas where they really need it. Thanks.

Today, David came over again and did a bunch of work on my camper. I expect he’ll finish tomorrow. One thing he fixed that I hadn’t thought about was my front door. The mechanism that let the screen door open with the outside door was faulty. He fixed it. What a relief to not have to spend 5 minutes getting out the door.

Last night, I finished reading Look Twice by Lisa Scottoline and today I expect to finish Quinn by Iris Johansen. Both are great books.

Until next time…
